Load-bearing shelves and thermal insulation perform different functions in ceramic and porcelain firing kilns. Cordierite plates are considered for supporting products, while insulation materials limit heat transfer through the kiln body. Selection considers kiln temperature and firing cycle together.
Material selection considerations
When selecting a cordierite plate, specify plate span, support points, total product weight and load distribution. The choice of perforated or solid surface depends on the product being fired and kiln arrangement. Plate load capacity cannot be inferred from thickness alone.
